How to keep your nails healthy at home

Like a great new haircut or terrific skin care regime, healthy and well-manicured nails are an integral part of a neat, pulled together appearance. And we all know how a well taken care of appearance can be an asset in both social and business world.

To help you keep the record straight and get you on the road of beautiful nails, I have come up with a few tips for achieving healthy, well-groomed and elegant nails.

 Cuticle care

Cuticle care is a vital factor for the health and appearance of your nails. What you can do is push back the cuticles once a week. As the nail is soft after you get out of the bath or shower, it’ll be best to do it at this time. Also, if you don’t own a cuticle tool, you can use a towel.

Don’t forget that cuticles protect the nail beds from bacterial and fungal infections, so it is very important that you don’t go overboard with trimming your cuticles.

 Use cuticles oil daily

Cuticles oil is used to moisturize the skin as well as the nail beds. In order to combat dryness, cuticle oil can be your savior, as it contains vitamin, citric acid and vegetable oil. It can also help to repair the damaged nails. For deep moisturization and maximum results, apply the oil before going to bed and leave it overnight.

 Use a glass file

I’m pretty sure all the ladies have come across a nail file at one time or another. Filling your nails is very important when it comes to managing chipped or jagged edge. If you ask me, I think the best way to get the most out of a nail file is by using crystal or glass file.

Note: Nail files are made to manage and trim the edges, not to saw off your whole nail. For optimal result, use nail file once a week.

 Use a milky hand wash

The clearer the cleanser, the more it may dry your skin. Also, avoid soaps that contain harsh chemicals like triclosan (often found in “antibacterial” soap) and instead look for natural antibacterial ingredients such as eucalyptus or tea tree oil.

 Moisturize

Frequently apply moisturizer to protect and nourish the nail as well as the surrounding skin. Hands are a part of the package so don’t forget to use hand cream, especially after washing your hands.

 Lay off the nail polish

Consider laying off the polish for a while before rebelliously painting away. Nail polish can dehydrate your nails if worn for a long time, and can cause flakiness. Go natural for a while; give the nails some room to breathe. As they say, natural is the best way to go.

 Shape your nails

Nails can be any shape from square, round to squoval or stiletto- the range of shape is endless. Just choose the one that suits the best for you. Anything with a slightly rounded or curved edge generally seems to be the strongest shape for natural nails. Because nails with squarer edge seems are more prone to breaking and chipping. Mirror the shape of your cuticle or try a rounded edger for optimum strength.

So, will you be nailing down these healthy nail tips?
