Olive Oil: DIY Makeup Remover

Do you have Olive Oil in your make-up bag? If no, you should have it now.

First off, let me tell you, I’ve worked pretty hard to go green in many areas of my life, and no, I’m not just talking about plastic bags. So, my recent focus is beauty products. Yeah, every morning is a kind of struggle to make this face a little presentable.

Honestly, I’m not a cosmetic junkie, but I do admit, I don’t leave the house without wearing minimum of foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara. Call it vanity or insecurity but I don’t feel fully dressed if my face isn’t done properly.

Over the years I have tried everything from pricey branded products to over the counter drugstore products. And recently, I decided to cut down the amount of chemical I put on my face to go green.

But one thing that I have never done before is make my own products-until now.

Before I tell you how to do it, let me make it clear why I decided to use Olive oil as make up remover.

Why Olive Oil?

It’s true that olive oil is good for your heart, but it is equally good for your skin as well. It basically, plumps and moisturizes the skin with a combination of Vitamin E and Vitamin A. So, it makes a very effective moisturizer for your hands, face and feet, practically anywhere that you want to use it, especially if you have dry skin.

Also, it contains four different types of antioxidants that is believed to repair the damaging free radicals that is associated with skin aging. It will make your skin balanced and make it less prone to irritation.

How to Use Olive Oil?

There is a sea of cleansers which make use of chemicals to break down the makeup and oil on your face. This is because oil is considered as a great dissolving agent and an excellent way of combating with oil. And, as much weird as it sounds, it is with oil that you can help protect against zits and pimples.

Simply hold the cotton ball with oil, and give it a few seconds to soak it in. After doing that you can easily remove the makeup.

But always remember to:

  • Wash your hands.
  • Put some of the olive oil in a cosmetic cotton pad or your fingers.
  • Gently massage oil onto your face to remove the makeup and dirt.
  • If you wish to get rid of the excess oil, simply use a tissue or clean towel and wipe it off.

If you’re still not convinced, you can always check the ability of the oil to remove makeup first. What you can do is try to put the makeup at the back of your hand and let it dry for a while. Now place a little olive oil onto a cotton ball, and swipe it across the makeup. Watch while it melts off.
